It's been nearly a decade since Mattel released their original "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched" Barbies, and now in time for Christmas 2010, they have produced a new trio of iconic '60s TV goddesses, including re-issues of Samantha and Jeannie as well as this new addition--Elly May Clampett (Donna Douglas) from "The Beverly Hillbillies".
The face molds on all three dolls are that of the classic original Barbie circa 1959-mid '60s.
The Elly May doll comes dressed in a plaid shirt with her famous rope-tied jeans and white strappy sandals and holds a slingshot in her hand. Her blonde hair is sporting her famous blonde pigtails, but I hate what they did with the rest of her hair. It's extemely curly and almost afro-like! Of course, Donna Douglas never wore her hair like that on the show and this really diminished my enjoyment of this doll plenty!
I wish Mattel had used the plastic casing for this doll rather than the cardboard one they decided to go with here. At first, I disliked the plastic boxes but have come to like them as they look more classy.
The inside of the box is an illustration of the Clampetts in their 1921 Rattletrap riding in front of their mansion. I wasn't too impressed with this artwork as it looks like a very bad rendering of the graphics from the original 1963 lunchbox.

The show logo appears on the front of the window in white. The back features a basic blurb about the series, along with a larger illustration of Elly May, which is almost like the cover of the original 1960s "Elly May" paper doll book.
The side panels are yellow with the "Beverly Hillbillies" logo in red. There is a B&W head-shot of Donna on the left of it and on the right in black says "Inspired by the Rags to Riches TV Show" underneath an illustrated oil well. IMO this looks kind of cheesy and cheap.
The top of the box is black with the show logo in white. It's very plain and not very attractive in my opinion. I don't hate it but it's nowhere near as eye-catching as Mattel's "The Birds" Barbie, for example.
Fans of the show will no doubt want to get this, but Mattel could have done a little better job on the packaging. The doll itself is spoiled by the horrible hairdo.
For diehard fans only; the casual fan/Barbie collector may want to pass on this one.
