(More customer reviews)I bought this doll because I am a huge "Wizard of Oz" fan, and also greatly enjoy collecting Barbies. I'm also a sucker for the Bob Mackie face-mould, and couldn't wait to get her. After purchasing her and getting her out of the box (which incidentially is very cute and nostalgic in itself with ruby slippers all over on a background of black), I found myself a little disappointed with the doll itself. The upper half of her is great. Her hair looks wonderful, and her face is absolutely beautiful. Perhaps the eyeshadow is a little heavy, but otherwise she's great. She has the perfect, far-off, dreamy-eyed expression you'd expect to find on Dorothy Gale. The bodice of the dress is more modern and grown-up than the one in the movie, with an almost peasant-blouse look, but is nice nonetheless. I love the red bows in her hair and the pink painted nails, and whoever thought of putting Toto in a bright red patent-leather tote bag was a genius.
The lower half of the doll, however, is not so great. First of all, the skirt is WAY too short. It should be at least another two inches longer to make her appear presentable. It comes up so far above the knee it looks like it shrank in the wash. I'm considering salvaging the top and sewing her a new skirt, one that comes down to a respectable length. The little knee-highs with the blue bows are cute, but the terribly clunky platform heels completely scandalize the idea of the classic ruby slippers. Together, these cons make out the Barbie brand to be less classy than it should appear. Wearing skimpy clothes and dressing immodestly shouldn't be marketed to little girls. That said, I find this doll very nice otherwise, even if she is a bit overpriced for what you get, and if you're a fan of Dorothy or the Wizard of Oz, this one should be on your list.
